CENTRE OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL MATERIALS AND NEW PROCESSES WITH ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT




ROUND TABLE


European funds – basis for sustainable relations “Science – Industry – Society” in the field of materials science in Bulgaria was organized on 23.02.2007


The Round table financed by the Project INCOCT–2005–016414 (MISSION) of FP6 took place at the Scientist House of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia.


The total number of the participants in the Round table was 62, among them: representatives of the scientific community (33), small and medium-size enterprises (11), of governmental (3) and non-governmental organizations (9) and mass media (6) took part in the Round table discussions.


The Round table was opened by Prof. DSc. Konstantin Hadjiivanov – Director of the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry and Coordinator of the Centre of Multifunctional Materials and New Processes with Environmental Impact. Welcoming speeches were addressed by Prof. DSc. Naum Yakimov – Deputy President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and by Eng. Agop Ovagimyan - Mayor of the Regional Municipality “Slatina”- Sofia.


Presentations of the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry and the Centre of Multifunctional Materials and New Processes with Environmental Impact were performed. The presentations included demonstration of the research traditions in IGIC and the perspectives for cooperation and preparation of joint projects with industry.


The main topics of the discussions at the Round table were connected with the possibilities of using the European funds for research and innovations in the fields of materials science, new green technologies and clean energy production.  Experts from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy and Energy, the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency as well as from a private consulting company presented information packages on the Bulgarian governmental operation programs as follows:


- Mrs. Gergana Mytreva from the Ministry of Finance – “Preparation of Bulgaria for participation in the structural tools of EC”;


- Mr. Andrey Lalov from the Ministry of Economy and Energy – “Priorities of the Operative program ”The increase of the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy   2007-2013” – a factor for economy growth”;


- Eng. Velislav Manev from “Viva Associated” Ltd. – “Partnership Science-Industry-Society a base for successful projects”;


- Mrs. Ralitza Borissova from the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Agency – “The PHARE program for building of Technology Transfer Centers”.


The main topics of the presentations were:


- Encouraging the inside and outside integration between the research organizations and their co-operation with the business;


- Development of competitive knowledge-based industry through new mechanisms for promotion of applied research, high and green technologies and innovations;


- Introduction and dissemination of innovations, in order to ensure a competitive edge in the international market and satisfy in advance the new demands of domestic and international consumer;.


- The Bulgarian innovation strategy aiming at increasing the competitiveness of Bulgarian industry, through the introduction of new knowledge-based products, materials and technologies for producing, management and services;


- These actions will increase the competitiveness of the Bulgarian industry and will improve its capacity to cope with the competition in the EU market.


A fruitful expressive discussion followed the presentations. A common conclusion was drawn that the relations between the scientific organizations and the industrial enterprises should be strengthened aiming at sustainable development of the Bulgarian economy and welfare of the society.


Bulgarian National Radio - program “Horizont” and program “Christo Botev” emitted interviews with Prof. DSc. Konstantin Hadjiivanov – Director of the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry and Coordinator of the Centre of Multifunctional Materials and New Processes with Environmental Impact. The “Alma Mater” Radio emitted reportage about the Round-table on 23.02.2007. Information about the event appeared in “Dnevnik” and “Standard” national newspapers.

Round-Table “The unique Bulgarian nature as a basis for SPA and Wellness tourism in Burgas region” took place on 17.05.2006 in the Burgas Municipality under the patronage of the Joan Kostadinov, Mayor of Burgas sity


Organizers of the Round-Table: Centre of Multifunctional Materials and New Processes with Environmental Impact (MISSION) (Project EC INCO CT 2005 016414), Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Municipality of Burgas, Burgas University ( Department of Natural Sciences, Medical College, Tourism College), Burgas Museum, Pomorie Salt Museum, Enterprise for Black-Sea-Salt production, Regional Rehabilitation Hospitals, Hotels: “Bulgaria”, “Mirage”, “Aqua”.


The total number of the participants in the Round table was 52, among them: representatives of the Burgas Municipality, Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Physicians from SPA, Wellness and physiotherapy centres from the Burgas region, hotel owners and staff, tour operators, journalists, clients.


The possibility of developing tourism combined with bath therapy, SPA and Wellness in Burgas and its region on the basis of Bulgarian natural products was discussed. 36 products for talasso- and aromatherapy and the cosmetic series “Sea Stars” and “Solilug”, prepared according to the ancient Thracian traditions the were presented. The idea of the Laboratory of Inorganic Salts in IGIC about development of products for talasso- and aromatherapy based on the unique natural resources (Black Sea Salts combined with the extracts of typical Bulgarian healing herbs) was presented and roused significant interest. The eco-tourism is very important to advertise Bulgarian natural resources and to attract European guests and investors.


Round-Table “The unique Bulgarian Nature – in the basis of the SPA and Wellness tourism in Bulgaria”- was organized on 21-st of December 2006 at SPA-Hotel “Augusta” Hissar, Bulgaria


The same topics as above were discussed and 36 products for talasso- and aromatherapy and the cosmetic series “Sea Stars” and “Solilug”were presented. Participants – about 50 persons from the South-central region of Bulgaria.




In the frame of the MISSION project, a Round-table, dedicated to the utilization of the Black Sea natural resources was organized on April 12th, 2006 in Pomorie. Invited guests were: the Mayor of Pomorie, Mr. Peter Zlatanov, Eng., representatives of the Pomorie and Burgas municipalities, scientists, experts, chemists, ecologists, engineers, physicians, public figures, hotel owners and tour-operators from the town and the region. The main topic of the Round-table discussion was how to join the efforts of various organizations aimed at preservation, use and sustainable development of the unique lake of Pomorie. The following governmental and non-governmental organizations took part in the discussion: the municipality, the industrial and salt-producing enterprises, ecological and museum associations, health and resort establishments for medication and prophylaxis, health resource and hotel administrations, IGIC-BAS, and the University of Burgas. The ecological state of the Pomorie Lake and the problems arisen from the sea-salt production were considered. The idea of the Laboratory of Inorganic Salts in IGIC about development of products for talasso- and aromatherapy based on the unique natural resources of the Pomorie Lake (lye, salts and firth silt, sediments) was presented and roused significant interest. The possibility of developing tourism combined with bath therapy, SPA and Wellness in Pomorie and its region on the basis of Bulgarian natural products was discussed. The products for talasso- and aromatherapy and the cosmetic series “Sea Stars” and “Solilug”, were presented. Several electronic media such as M SAT, TV World, BNT emitted short reportages about the Round-table. Brief information about the event appeared in the “24 h”national newspaper. The information focused on the beginning of the collaboration between MISSION project representatives and the interested institutions in the Pomorie region.
